Death of Kadir: Main suspect held

Imphal, June 22 2025: Longjam Khaba who is alleged to be the main suspect in the illegal detention and murder of Chesam Abdul Kadir has been arrested by Imphal West district police somewhere from Mayang Imphal area at around 6.30 pm today.

The alleged main suspect was on the run from police after he was summoned before the police station concerned in connection with the missing case of Chesam Abdul Kadir after Kadir was handed over to Arambai Tenggol Quick Response Team (QRT) .

The arrested person is said to be commander of Arambai Tenggol, Quick Response Team (QRT) .

Longjam Boy alias Khaba (35) s/o Ibohal of Yumnam Huidrom Thiyam Leishangkhong was on the run in connection with the case.

Chesam Abdul Kadir was missing since June 11 morning after he was detained on some alleged charges by locals of Yumnam Huidrom Makha Leikai and later taken by Arambai Tenggol Quick Response Team (QRT) on the same morning.

During the course of investigation of the missing case, Wangoi police station arrested three persons on June 15 followed by six others including a woman on June 16 before the dead body of Chesam Abdul Kadir was found buried on the bank of Nambul River at Shamurou Makha Naorem on June 17 morning.

Among the arrested nine persons, three were remanded to judicial custody yesterday and the remaining six will be produced before a Court tomorrow.

The nine persons arrested earlier in connection with the case include six AT members and three civilians.

Police had also seized five vehicles which included three Gypsys, one DI pickup and one Active moped.

Sources said that the alleged main accused arrested today might be produced before a Duty Magistrate tonight.
