Imphal, March 22 2026:
The Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) has asserted that Chief Minister Y Khemchand must present a detailed report regarding his meeting with members of Kuki-Zo Council (KZC) at Guwahati on March 21, 2026.Speaking to media persons at their Lamphelpat office this afternoon, COCOMI co-convenor Yumkhaibam Surjitkumar Khuman said that the Chief Minister ought to inform the public what transpired at the Guwahati meeting.
The KZC took pivotal roles in igniting the violent crisis which erupted on May 3, 2023 and as such, the talk held between the Chief Minister and the KZC is unacceptable to the COCOMI, he said.
Even if the Chief Minister talked with the KZC members with an intention to resolve the crisis and bring peace, COCOMI would have welcomed the meeting had it been held within Manipur, Suijitkumar said.
It is a matter of grave concern that the KZC reiterated their demand for separate administration and asked for continued maintenance of buffer zones during the Guwahati meeting, he remarked.
Even though the Chief Minister claimed that there is no buffer zone, it remains a question to which a concrete answer is still elusive.
As such, people are confused whether there are buffer zones or not, he said.
He went on to ask why people of all communities cannot move freely on National Highways, IDPs cannot be resettled and why fanners cannot till their fields if there is no buffer zone.
He further asked why the Chief Minister is not going to Churachandpur, Moreh and Kangpokpi and talk with the displaced people there if there is no buffer zone.
The COCOMI co-convenor urged the Chief Minister not to betray the public trust that the popular Government will work more in line with the people's trust than the PR administration.
