Imphal, January 21 2009:
In protest against deprivation of due benefits to the pensioners/family pensioners and decrying negligence of aged pensioners who have contributed the best part of their lives in the service of the Government, a hunger relay strike has begun from today at Keishampat Sega Road Top Leirak Machin here.
The hunger relay strike is being organised under the aegis of Manipur State Pensioners' Union, Imphal West Branch and will continue till January 23 .
The demands of the pensioners include immediate release of the pending DR arrears for the last 174 months, payment of 44 months' arrears in connection with the 50 percent of the dearness pension merged with the basic and extension of the benefits of the 6th Pay and other allowances to all the employees and pensioners of he State.
The Union has also informed that the demands of the pensioners would be submitted in the form of a memorandum tomorrow to the officials of the 13th Finance Commission who are currently on a visit to the State.
