UNC to hold talks with Central leaders

A team of more than 10 Naga leaders under the banner of UNC will hold talks with Central leaders on August 26 in New Delhi on the issues of Free Movement Regime (FMR) and border fencing.
The incumbent executives of UNC and former UNC presidents, leaders of Naga Women Union (NWU) and All Naga Students' Association, Manipur (ANSAM) will comprise the team for the talks, sources from the UNC informed Newmai News Network tonight.
AK Mishra, Advisor (North East), Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), Government of India, has extended a formal invitation to the UNC today for the talks.
Speaking to NNN today, UNC president Ng Lorho said whether they should go ahead with their planned agitation will depend on the outcome of the talks on August 26.He also said that the Nagas will not accept any dilly-dallying tactics of the Government of India.
Lorho further said the approach of the Government of India should reflect the sentiment of the Naga people and their (Nagas) seriousness on the issue.
Earlier, the Naga leaders had said that they had pressed the Governor of Manipur in the August 16 meeting in Imphal that in the event of the talks, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) and the Ministry of Defence should participate.
The United Naga Council had served a 20-day ultimatum to the Government on July 22.The ultimatum lapsed on August 11.An "emergency presidential council meeting" of the United Naga Council (UNC) was held on August 11 in Senapati, and it was participated by presidents of the "Naga tribe hohos" under the UNC.
The meeting resolved to "announce the mode of agitation and modus operandi within 15 days" .
The meeting was held on the issue of the abrogation of the Free Movement Regime (FMR) and the ongoing border fencing works in "Naga ancestral homeland".
The Naga leaders will leave for New Delhi on August 25 .
