Imphal, April 20 2026:
Amid growing lethal attacks on civilians, the All Manipur Bar Association and High Court Bar Association of Manipur came together to organize a sit-in protest in condemnation of the "terror killing" of two passengers at TM Kasom in Ukhrul district and two children in Tronglaobi.
The protest demonstration was held at Uripok Cheirap Court Complex.
Speaking by the sideline of the protest, senior advocate Khaidem Mani declared that merely handing over the Tronglaobi case to the NIA will not solve the problem.
Instead, he called for a massive combing operation and surgical strike to detect and nab the terrorists.
Terming the killing of three unarmed civilians in indiscriminate CRPF firing as "unjustified", Khaidem Mani sought a judicial inquiry under the Commissions of Inquiry Act, 1952 .
He urged the Government to adequately exercise its sovereign power under List II (State List) of the Constitution to arrest the perpetrators.
Speaking to the press, Chakpram Bimolchandra, spokesperson, Manipur Bar Association, expressed anguish over the Tronglaobi tragedy and the killing of two innocent Tangkhul men in the TM Kasom ambush carried out by armed militants.
He denounced the Government's failure to bring the situation under control, which has led to utter lawlessness in Manipur.
People have been deprived of the guaranteed basic Right to Freedom including the inability to move freely to Kangpokpi, Churachandpur and Moreh, he said.
Moreover, even the Right to Freedom of Religion has come under question as Meiteis cannot go on their annual pilgrimage to the sacred Thangjing and Kobru Hill Range, said Chakpram Bimolchandra.
A similar protest against the Tronglaobi killings and TM Kasom ambush was staged at Nawathel Club in Kongjeng Leikai.
The sit-in protest was jointly organised by the Apunba Naharolgi Shakti, Konjeng Leikai and Konjeng Langpoklakpam Leikai Apunba Meira Paibi.
Konjeng Langpoklakpam Leikai Apunba Meira Paibi president Laishram Ebelei condemned the violent attacks on civilians and demanded justice for the victims.
Mourning the loss of innocent lives, she extended her condolences to the grieving families.
