Human trafficker suspect sent to custody

Imphal, September 18 2026:
A 27-year old man, suspected to be involved in a case of human trafficking, has been sent to police custody after he was arrested from Delhi.
Ningombam Ronaldo who was brought to Imphal from Delhi yesterday was produced before the Court of Judicial Magistrate, First Class, Imphal East today.
An APP of the State submitted that Ningombam Ronaldo (27) s/o (L) Ranjit of Sagolband Wahengbam Maning Leikai, staying in a rented house at Gitorni, New Delhi at present, was arrested on September 16 at around 1.30 pm .
A written complaint was received by Women Police Station, Imphal East on September 9 regarding the trafficking of around six young women/girls from the Keibi area.
In view of the seriousness of the information and possibility of the victims being transported outside the State, a team of Imphal East women police personnel rushed to Keibi where the victims were reportedly kept hidden.
During the operation, one victim was rescued and two accused Chandam Tababi alias Taniya and Khuman-them Nanao were arrested.
On examination, the victim said she was engaged by Nanao and Tababi through one Gaitri who is reportedly operating Unisex Salon at Keishampat and engaging women for employment in New Delhi.
She said she was not aware of the service she had to provide and the place where she has to work in Delhi.
Later Gaitri and Tababi told the victim that she has to entertain customers sexually.
Upon hearing this, she contacted a friend of hers and sought help.
Later she was rescued and also came to know that two persons including Ningombam Ronaldo residing in New Delhi were planning to take them to hotels, and some other 4/5 women had already been taken to Delhi.
During interrogation, Gaitri admitted that she recruited the victim women as directed by Bony, another accused of the case, through Tababi who was her employee.
Gaitri said she has been working for Bony in recruiting women for sexual exploitation in the name of offering jobs at Delhi and she received a certain amount from Bony for recruiting women.
As Bony demanded some more women, Gaitri contacted Tababi who then brought the victim women.
Once the women reached Delhi, Bony and Ronaldo would take the women to their respective hotels and saloons, Gaitri said.
On preliminary interrogation, Ronaldo admitted the offence and charges levelled against him that he used to harbour girls in different hotels with false promise of giving them jobs as receptionists at hotels or beauticians at parlours, and got money from the main accused.
The main accused in presently absconding and efforts are being made to trace and apprehend him.
As such, custodial interrogation of Ronaldo is necessary to ascertain the complete chain of events, identify the role and whereabouts of the absconding main accused and other associates, the APP told the Court.
The Court, after hearing the submission of the APP and on perusal of the case record, remanded Ningombam Ronaldo in police custody till September 21 .
Notably, Tababi and Nanao were arrested on September 10 and remanded in police custody.
