MHRC inspects children home

The Manipur Human Rights Commission (MHRC) Chairperson Justice UB Saha inspected Destitute Children Home at Tera Keithel where 37 children are currently lodged today.
He was accompanied by MHRC Member KK Singh, IGP Mamata Wahengban and Sub-Inspector Loitongbam Peter Sony.
Briefing the MHRC team, the Children Home functionary said that the Home has been running with the grants from Ministry of Women and Children Development, Government of India.
He said the Home receives 90 percent grant from the Ministry through the Social Welfare Department, Government of Manipur, but they are facing difficulty in managing the Home due to delay in fund release.
On enquiry, MHRC team was informed that the Home only keeps the children in 6 to 18 age group and some of the children who used to stay there currently hold key posts in the Government.
The MHRC, after listening to the grievances of the children, assured that the Commission would always protect the rights of the children.
