Jiribam, June 18 2024:
The way in which the State Government has been dealing with the pressing issue in Jiribam has displeased the displaced folks from Lamtai Khunou who are taking refuge at Borobekra police station.
All hopes have been shattered is what the residents (of Lamtai Khunou) said as they await help from the Government which was assured to facilitate their return home.
Speaking to media persons, N Naba, a native of Lamtai Khunou, said that the Government assured to rebuild their houses which were torched by Kuki miscreants and deploy adequate security forces at his village to ensure their resettlement but no tangible actions have been taken up as of yet.
"The Government hasn't delivered any of its assurances and it makes us feel hopeless," he said.

Naba, like several others, also lost his house in arson.
He further stated that they have been living at the police station for over two weeks now without getting any assistance from the Government.
Appealing to the Government to see how the women and children have been living at the police station, Naba asked if the Government doesn't see their pain and suffering.
The elders have been spending several sleepless nights at the police station weeping but it seems like there is nobody to listen "to our plight and help us", he said dejectedly.
It is disheartening, Naba said, referring to how they have been living miserably at the police station.
He also said that the verandah of the police station is the only space available for them to sleep.
"There is no place for us to sleep whenever there is rain," he sighed and added that many of them (displaced folks from Lamtai Khunou) have fallen ill and it makes them feel more helpless.
Does the Government want us to die, he asked.
Saying that they fear venturing outside the police station, he maintained that they are hoping for normalcy to return in Jiribam.
He also appealed to all civil society organisations to lend a helping hand in alleviating their suffering.
