COCOMI details failure of Government

The Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) has asserted that its demand for Chief Minister Y Khemchand to step down is compelled by his failure to act responsibility following, the Tronglaobi incident and his policy of Kuki appeasement.
COCOMI has also been demanding resignation of Home Minister Govindas Konthoujam for his failure to act responsibly following the Tronglaobi incident and for mishandling the situation.
A statement issued by the COCOMI decried that whatever steps taken up by the Government in the aftermath of the Tronglaobi attack carried out by Kuki narco-terrorists in the wee hours of April 7 in which two sleeping toddlers were killed and their mother was critically injured have failed far short of the people's expectation.
It said that no immediate combing operation was carried out to nab the perpetrators of the terror attack.
It is only natural for the people to raise a strong protest against such a shocking and gruesome attack but the Government did not do anything to control the protest.
As a result, three civilians were killed in indiscriminate firing by CRPF.
Had the Government acted responsibly, the death of the three civilians at the hands of CRPF could have been avoided even if it could not avert the Tronglaobi attack by Kuki narco-terrorists, the COCOMI said.
As the Chief Minister of Manipur, Khemchand had no justification for his meeting with Kuki-Zo Council leaders at Guwahati on March 21, 2026.The Chief Minister's formal meeting with the terrorist group in another State who have been killing people and burning villages in pursuit of a Separate Administration was tantamount to accepting their demand, it claimed.
It was capitulation, surrender, and selling off Manipur's National pride and dignity, it said.
To a query raised by media persons regarding the objection raised by COCOMI to the Guwahati meet, the Chief Minister, after returning from the same meeting, stated "the Government is not under the COCOMI".
His words only reflected his ignorance of the roles taken by COCOMI and other CSOs since the crisis broke out, it said.
The CSOs have been working in the interest of the people and against corruption, injustice and abuse of power.
The CSOs have also been working to protect human rights and social justice, and peaceful resolution of conflicts and other inter-community issues, the COCOMI said.
To another query, Khemchand stated, "The highway is always open; people avoid it due to fear.
People who are not afraid are travelling on the highway".
These words reflect sheer irresponsibility.
It must be understood that the people's demand to open the highway means ensuring free movement with a sense of security, it asserted.
COCOMI said that it appreciates the Chief Minister's visits to Jiribam and Senapati.
Khemchand went to Jiribam and Senapati not because he was bold or politically insightful but because he was given permission by the Kuki narco-terrorists and the Government of India, it said.
People have not forgotten how the former Chief Minister was stopped by the Union Home Minister from visiting Koutruk after the village was attacked by Kuki narco-terrorists with drones resulting in many casualties on September 1, 2024.Earlier, the former Chief Minister was stopped by the Union Home Minister from visiting Jiribam on June 10, 2025.The COCOMI went on to question if Chief Minister Y Khemchand's failure to visit Tronglaobi after the most inhuman and brutal attack of April 7 is because of prohibition by the Government of India.
As the Chief Minister of the State and as per Meitei customs, the Chief Minister should have paid a visit to the victim families.
He should also have taken stock of the security measures on the ground, the COCOMI said.
It asserted that the Chief Minister's failure to visit Tronglaobi is a million-dollar question.
Forget about Jiribam and Senapati, the State's Chief Ministers cannot visit even Koutruk without permission from the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India and Kuki narco-terrorists, it said.
To an appeal made by IDPs from Moreh at Akampat relief camp to station an IRB battalion at Moreh, Khemchand said that stationing IRB is not important; what is more important is creating trust between Meetei and Kuki.
These words of the Chief Minister are a weak attempt of the State Government's failure to station IRB at Moreh.
At the same time, Khemchand's words implied that resettlement of Meetei at Moreh depends on the blessing of Kuki narco-terrorists, the COCOMI remarked.
It asked, "What is the point of having a Government if Meiteis cannot resettle at Moreh until there is trust and harmony between the community and Kukis?" .
It is now crystal clear that the three-year-old crisis is a proxy war of the BJP Government led by Narendra Modi and it is aimed at destroying the spirit of Meitei people.
However, some retired military officers, intellectuals and journalists have been portraying the crisis as communal conflict between the Meitei and Kuki communities.
For their own personal interests, they are supporting the Government of India's narrative of 'Meetei-Kuki ethnic conflict' which is deliberately designed to cover up the killing and displacement of its own citizens from the international community, the COCOMI said.
The sustained aggression by Chin-Kuki narco-terrorists is a proxy war of India.
As such, no solution can be achieved by meeting Kuki CSOs or visiting Jiribam, Moreh or Churachandpur.
Bringing an end to the crisis lies entirely in the hands of the Government of India, it asserted.
Of late, the proxy war being waged against the Meiteis has encompassed the Nagas, particularly Tangkhuls.
Thus India has been creating divisions among the communities and keeping Manipur like a tinderbox, it said.
It is the Kuki terrorists who have been killing Meitei people, and demanding separate administration, claiming that they cannot live together with the Meiteis, the COCOMI pointed out before questioning how Meitei people can create trust and harmony with these terrorists.
The COCOMI further asked if he couldnot understand the message of the Tronglaobi terror attack carried out not long after his trust and confidence building meeting with Kuki terrorists at Guwahati.
The only way to bring an end to the aggression of Chin-Kuki narco-terrorists is mustering enough courage by the State's BJP leaders and MLAs, and telling Prime Minister Narendra Modi 'enough is enough' .
They should be bold enough to tell Modi that the injustice done by the Government of India to the people of Manipur is too much.
"Our politicians must give up 'puppet politics' and adopt 'principled politics' .
Only this can save Manipur, the COCOMI added.
