Imphal, December 16 2010: Arrested UNLF Chairman RK Meghen alias Sana Yaima was produced before a Special Court of National Investigation Agency (NIA) at Guwahati today for hearing the bail application of the rebel leader.

Through his counsel, the rebel leader placed his submission stating that Manipur was a sovereign Nation before it became a part of India.

According to information received from Guwahati, RK Meghen was produced before the Judge of NIA's Special Court AK Das to hear his bail application today.

His counsel Moirangthem Gunadhor placed the submission on behalf of the arrested rebel leader who is currently under the custody of NIA.

It may be noted here that after RK Sana Yaima, whose whereabouts remained a closely guarded secret for two months, after his reported arrest by a joint intelligence team of India and Bangladesh, was ultimately claimed to have been arrested from Motihari, Bihar.

This was the submission by NIA before its Special Court at Guwahati.

Subsequently, he was remanded to the custody of NIA for another 13 days for questioning.

In his submission, the rebel leader stated that Manipur was a sovereign Nation prior to the Anglo-Manipuri war of 1891.After the war, Manipur became a colony of the British empire and regained its independence in 1947 .

The submission further stated that on September 21, 1949, the then Maharaja of Manipur Budhachandra was kept under house arrest in Shillong and made to sign the merger agreement under duress which led to to the announcement that Manipur is a part of the Indian Union on October 15, 1949 .

It was not a merger agreement but forced annexation, the rebel leader contended in his submission.

Stating that he is still the Chairman of UNLF, the rebel leader asserted in his submission 'we are not waging war against India.

But only demanding our right to self determination' .

Objecting to the Acts applied on him, the rebel leader contended that he has not committed crime against anybody.

The bail application of RK Meghen was rejected by the Special Court of NIA and remanded him to judicial custody for 14 days till December 29 with the instruction that he should be again produced before the Court the following day.

As NIA didn't seek further remand for RK Meghen, the Court sent him to judicial custody.

The bail petition filed on December 13 too has been withdrawn since there is no possibility of the Court granting bail to the rebel leader at the moment.

In the case registered against RK Meghen, NIA has charged him under sections 121, 121 (A), 120 (B), 123 of IPC read along with section 13, 16, 18 39 and 40 of UAPA.Meanwhile, acting on another complaint lodged in the same special court of NIA by RK Chinglensana, the second son of RK Meghen, the court has directed the police for submitting necessary report within December 21 .

In his complaint, RK Chinglensana stated that his father is not a criminal nor a war-monger against India but only demanding the right to self determination but he has rendered him like a handicap person from constant torture.
