Cop wounded in knife attack

Imphal, June 16 2026:
A 46-year-old personnel of the Manipur Traffic Police was attacked with a knife by a 20-year-old youth this morning at Shamu Makhong under the City Police Station, Imphal West.
According to sources, the incident occurred while the traffic police personnel was on duty at Shamu Makhong.
The accused allegedly cut him from behind with a knife and fled the spot.
The injured officer, identified as Salam Tarun of Kwakeithel Mayai Koibi, was rushed to the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) Hospital for treatment and is stated to be in stable condition.
Following a hectic search operation, the accused was arrested by a police team and lodged at the City Police Station.
The accused has been identified as Maibam Umakanta (20) of Nongpok Sekmai, currently residing in a rented house at Wahengbam Leikai.
