Imphal, May 16:
Outraged with the inordinate delay in construction of the three market complex at Khwairamband Bazar, women vendors marched towards the Chief Minister's official residence at about 12.40 pm today.
The women vendors also held placards and festoons which read as "Complete market complex construction", "Where have the funds sanctioned for market construction being misutilized", "Don't inconvenience women vendors" etc.
However, the women vendors were blocked just beyond the BT road by police.
They were informed by the police personnel that the Chief Minister was away at the State Assembly attending a session.
Yet, the women vendors refused to go back saying that they would submit a memorandum to the Chief Minister when he returns to his residence during lunch hour.
After a brief altercation with the police personnel, the women vendors were told that five representatives of the Manipur Keithel Nupi Marup, Khwairamband Keithel would be allowed to submit their memorandum to the Chief Minister at about 5.30 pm today.
Following the assurance, the women vendors went back.
A copy of the memorandum made available to the press reminded the State Government of its assurance that construction of the three market complex would be completed by October last year.
Even after six months of the deadline set by the State Government, the New market complex and Laxmi Market are still far from the completion stage.
On the other hand, foundation stone is yet to be laid for the Purana Market complex.
The women urged the CM to complete the work at the earliest possible time.
