UNLF states stand on divide and destroy policy

Imphal, December 15 2012: Asserting its stand, the proscribed UNLF has categorically stated that it can never agree to the rantings of anyone which can lead to misunderstanding and sow the seeds of communal tension and animosity.

Making its stand clear, the outfit in a statement issued today said that after India 'annexed' the WESIA region, it has embarked on a policy to sow the seeds of discord amongst the indigenous people.

It is to save the people from such a policy that the movement to 'liberate', the region and the people has been launched, said the outfit but added that even today a united movement is still eluding the people.

The failure to forge a united movement is due to the policy of 'divide and destroy' pursued by the Government of India, alleged the outfit and added that the people have fallen prey to this policy leading to tension and misunderstanding.

Under this policy, the Government of India has deliberately sowed the divide rule by bracketing the indigenous people as ST/SC/OBC and Sixth Schedule, alleged the outfit.

The policy of the Government of India is to encourage narrow, ethnic based outlook and thus thwart all attempts to forge a united struggle and movement it said and added that this has succeeded to an extent here.

This is exemplified by the manner in which some armed groups have accepted the Constitution of India and have asserted such demands as 'alternative arrangement' or 'home land', said UNLF.

The 2000 year old history of the Manipuri Nation is the fruit of the efforts put in by all the indigenous people who have been co-existing in a state of harmony, said the outfit.

However all this has been forgotten and at the behest of India, the indigenous people have started training their guns on each other.

At this critical juncture, it would be wrong for some people from the Meitei community to let their emotions rule their thoughts and come out with statements in the media, which will further the divide.

It is incumbent on the part of the Meitei community to remember their responsibility in forging the Manipuri Nationhood and strengthen the unity of the people, observed the outfit.

Rantings in the media, without taking into considerations the present situation would amount to nothing less than hate mongering.

Reiterating its stand, UNLF said that it believes in the principles of inter-dependence, autonomy at all levels of the different communities and to live unitedly and progress together.

All these would be possible only when the people and the land become free from the alien rule, said UNLF and added that under the rule of India, this would not be possible.

The outfit further observed that pursuing an agenda based on narrow outlook under the Government of India would amount to digging the grave yards of the people.

It would be impossible for the smaller communities to carve out their own niche under the Government of India, it alleged further.
