Imphal, October 15 2026:
Expressing dissatisfaction with the services provided by senior doctors at the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), the JAC formed in connection with the death of Thokchom ongbi Binaroi has urged the hospital authorities to ensure medical practitioners perform their duties properly to save lives.
Binaroi, wife of Th Marson died at RIMS a couple of days back following childbirth, with her family members alleging medical negligence.
Seeking justice for her, a committee named the JAC for Justice and Save Motherhood has been formed.
The JAC resolved to not claim the body until an agreement is reached with the hospital authorities.
Speaking to the media at the deceased's residence at Keishampat Jailor Leirak today, Marson said he has entrusted everything to the JAC to ensure that his wife gets justice.
He also urged the RIMS authorities to establish the cause of his wife's death.
JAC convenor Chongtham Iboyaima said Binaroi was taken to the operation theatre (OT) for childbirth at around 10.20 pm on October 12 .
Saying that Binaroi gave birth to a baby boy, he claimed that the mother, however, was not brought out of the OT for a long time.
He claimed that hospital staff informed the family that a bed had not been arranged for the mother and that she would be brought out later.
He said hospital staff informed the family members again at around 3.30 am that Binaroi's blood pressure was high, following which she was admitted to the ICU .
The JAC convenor further said that the hospital authorities made the deceased's husband sign two or three papers for administering an injection into her neck.
Saying that Binaroi had no health issues before the surgery, he alleged that she died due to medical negligence.
He further alleged that the RIMS Director and Medical Superintendent are also at fault for allegedly failing to ensure that doctors reported for duty on time.
Iboyaima said the RIMS authorities should examine whether the surgery was performed by junior doctors who had not completed postgraduate courses in the absence of senior doctors.
He claimed that many unfortunate incidents had occurred at RIMS because of the negligence of the hospital authorities.
The JAC convenor said that more tragedies would occur at RIMS unless the hospital's working system is changed.
He also said that upgrading RIMS to AIIMS would serve no purpose or benefit the people if the existing system of functioning at the hospital remains unchanged.
The convenor also claimed that Dr Moirangthem Rameshwor should reach out to the deceased's family and resolve the issue instead of allegedly evading them.
He also urged the authorities concerned to examine what could be done to support the baby until he attains the age of 21 .
Urging the RIMS authorities to discard the notion that issues concerning controversial patient deaths could be resolved merely by forming enquiry committees, he called on them to ensure that senior doctors discharge their duties as required.
