Imphal, October 15 2025:
The Thadou community, in coordination with Thadou Inpi Manipur (TIM), has submitted a petition to Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla, LandResources Secretary, DSLR Director and Imphal East Deputy Commissioner, requesting the official naming of a 7-acre (approx) portion of the area under 38-A Palace Compound Revenue Village, Imphal East District, as "Thadou Enclave" .
TIM, in a statement, stated that the petition seeks to honour the historical bravery and loyalty of the Thadou palace warriors, who served as guardians of the Manipur Maharaja during the merger in 1949 .
The area, unofficially known as Haokip Veng or Khongjai Khun, has been home to generations of Thadou people, who have maintained peaceful coexistence and contributed significantly to the unity and territorial integrity of Manipur, it said.
Saying that the petition underscores the community's continued commitment to peace and State integrity, particularly following the Manipur violence of 2023, when the area was temporarily evacuated, it added that the Covenant of Community Understanding, signed on 6th August 2025 between Thadou Inpi Manipur and Manipur-based civil society organizations, reaffirmed the Thadou community's dedication to inter-community harmony and a united Manipur.
The request for official naming is submitted under the provisions of The Manipur Names of Places Act, 2024, and aims to preserve the cultural and historical identity of the Thadou community, while paying tribute to their enduring contributions to the State, it added.
