Imphal, October 15: The establishment of District Institute of Education and Training (DIET) centre at Tamei headquarters has become a bone of contention among various entities.

Reacting to the Zeliangrong Students' Union, Tamenglong District (ZSU-TD)'s demand that the DIET centre be shifted from Tamei to Tamenglong Hqs, the Liangmai Naga Katimai Ruangdi (LNKR) said today that since everything has been concentrated in the district headquarters, atleast a meagre piece of development can be spared for the Tamei sub-division.

The LNKR said citing bad transportation and other non-availability of facilities are mere excuses put up by few vested interests to foil development infrastructure from coming to Tamei sub-division as the sub-division had been deprived of such facility since Manipur attained statehood.

All development works of Tamenglong district have been concentrated in the district Hqs with the rest of the district left out, rued the Liangmai students' body.

With regard to the memorandum submitted by the ZSU-TD to Education minister L Nandakumar contending lack of accommodation facilities in the Tamei DIET centre, the LNKR questioned whether there would be immediate availability of similar facilities if and when the centre is shifted to Tamenglong district headquarters.

The LNKR reasoned that instead of reconstruction of the centre by shifting the same to elsewhere, it would be more appropriate if requisite facilities are added to the already constructed DIET centre building and make use of it.

Mention may be made that a two storey-building had been constructed at Tamei which had already been inaugurated by chief minister O Ibobi sometime back.

The institute has also been functioning for some years now.

The Liangmai students's body also explained that if various indigenous communities of Tamenglong district have to co-exist cordially steps to strengthen relationships among the communities by extending developmental works in different parts of the district is a must.

"If the people from Tamenglong district head quarters are reluctant to come to Tamei sub-division, think of the others from outside the district posted at the place," expressed the LNKR.
