Pambei-led UNLF condoles

The Pambei-led UNLF has condoled the demise of Aheibam Birendra who took key roles in the early days of the outfit.
Aheibam Birendra was bom to Aheibam Noyon and Aheibam (O) Maipakpi of Chingamakha Heirangoithong Jaganatha Achouba Aheibam Leikai on July 1, 1945.After completing MA (English) from Gauhati University, he taught at Oriental College.
He also taught as a Guest Lecturer in the English Department, Manipur University.
After retiring from the teaching profession, he served as the Director of Art and Culture on deputation.
Aheibam Birendra also served as the Director of North East Zone Cultural Centre, Dimapur in 1999, said a press release issued by the outfit's media coordinator Charairongba Thokchom.
Even though Aheibam Birendra was serving as a Government employee, his real self was concealed from the public.
He joined the UNLF in 1965 and became the party's Secretary Organisation (Home) in 1966.Thus he served the party from the early days till his last breath, said the outfit.
Aheibam Birendra took key roles in the establishment of the AMSU.
Its motto 'Learn, Serve, Sacrifice' and its logo were coined/designed by him.
He was also a founder member of the Pan Manipuri Youth League.
Apart from being a columnist of the vernacular daily Ereibak, Aheibam Birendra served as the secretary of Hueiyen Laanlong Sindam Sang, (Keishamthong Laisom Leirak).
He also translated the Puya Chainarol (Way of Warrior) into English.
This work of Oja Aheibam Birendra put Manipur on a high pedestal of respect at the international stage, the outfit remarked.
After he suffered injuries on the spine in 2023, Aheibam Birendra was undergoing treatment for a long time before he breathed his last on May 10, 2024.Saying that Aheibam Birendra's contributions will be remembered forever, the outfit remarked that his demise is an irreparable loss.
Paying deepest respect to the departed soul, the outfit conveyed solidarity to the bereaved family and friends.
