Govindas Konthoujam calls for unity and responsibility at Hindu Sammelan in Moirang

Moirang, February 15 2026: Manipur Home Minister and MLA of Bishnupur Assembly Constituency, Govindas Konthoujam, has stressed the need for unity, responsibility and collective action to restore peace and harmony in the State.

He was speaking while attending a Hindu Sammelan held at Shri Shri Radha Madhav Ji Mandop in Moirang.

The programme was organised by Ningthoukhong Hindu Sammelan as part of RSS initiative held nationwide with the objective of promoting cultural unity, cultural revival and social harmony.

The event featured various cultural performances, including Natta Sankirtan, Holi-Pala and other traditional activities.

The function was attended by Khana Chaoba Wangpurel Sintha Apunba and Laipung Sharat Khumancha; Acharya Kakchingtabam Brajamani Sharma; Asem Chanu Velorpati, Assistant Professor at Mangolnganbi College, Ningthoukhong; Prant Pariyawaran Sangrakshak and Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission Project, Manipur, official Th Monbihari; along with several RSS members and other dignitaries.

The programme began with floral tributes to Bharat Mata and the ceremonial lighting of the lamp.

Addressing the gathering, Govindas Konthoujam said that if Manipur is to live in peace and harmony and safeguard its people and the State, it is essential to "play the right card" and move forward together.

He emphasised that as Indian citizens, people must not only demand the rights guaranteed by the Constitution but also shoulder their responsibilities.

Only by following the right path, he said, can the vision of the Prime Minister's "Viksit Bharat" be realised.

Referring to India's rich historical legacy, he cited Nalanda University as evidence that the country was once highly advanced in education, describing it as the world's first university.

He lamented its destruction by an invading ruler centuries ago, adding that India might have remained at the forefront globally had such devastation not occurred.

Turning to the present situation in Manipur, the Minister observed that the State is passing through a critical phase marked by economic decline and growing mistrust among communities.

He said that while the Government is making efforts to restore peace and harmony, lasting normalcy can only be achieved if people nurture love, mutual respect and understanding among different communities.

He expressed hope that with collective commitment and unity of heart, Manipur would soon regain normalcy and emerge as a harmonious and progressive State.
