Imphal, August 14 2022: The All Manipur Students' Union (AMSU) has called for the attention of the State Government to ensure that a second 'Chaklam Khongchat' is prevented in light of the recent trend of ever increasing price of essential commodities.

Haobijam Chalamba Meitei, president AMSU said this at a press conference at its head office at DM College campus today and added that the 'Chaklam Khongchat' in 1965 was a result of artificial price hike and control by Government and the big businessmen.

The rise of price of essential commodities during recent times has created a fear amongst the public and AMSU fears that a second 'Chaklam Khongchat' may be on the plate if the trend continues, he warned.

He further added that 57th Hungers Marchers' Day will be observed on August 27 under the theme 'Learning for emancipation' at 9 am by paying floral tribute to the memorial site at Pishum Chingamacha.

This will be followed by a memorial march from Pishum Chingamacha to DMU campus and will culminate with a public meeting at DM Arts playground.

Similar programmes will be organised by district committees in different districts.

Play on Chaklam Khongchat will also be played at Rupmahal Theatre and mobilisation programmes to spread awareness about the Chaklam Khongchat will be held at schools and colleges of the State, Chalamba added.

He also added that AMSU will also be celebrating its 57th foundation day of August 28 along with a mass voluntary blood donation camp and appealed the public to extend support in observing the Hunger Marchers' Day and foundation day of AMSU.
