NPP resolves to oppose Waqf Act

NPP Manipur State unit has decided to oppose the Waqf Amendment Act 2025 which was recently passed by the Parliament.
NPP Manipur State unit held a meeting at their Naoremthong office this morning and decided to urge the Government of India to repeal the Waqf Amendment Act 2025 .
Speaking to media persons after the meeting, NPP Manipur unit president Y Joykumar noted that the Waqf Amendment Act 2025 is becoming a big issue in the State.
Apart from protesting on the streets, the Muslim community has already asked all the Muslim MLAs as well as MLAs who represent Muslim people to state their positions publicly on the controversial Act.
Taking serious note of the voice of condemnation raised by the Muslim community, NPP Manipur unit convened a meeting to adopt a concrete position on the issue, Joykumar said.
The meeting which was held with due permission of the NPP National president resolved to support the Muslim community's objection against the Waqf Amendment Act 2025 .
The meeting further resolved to oppose the same Act.
NPP Manipur unit working president and legislature leader Sheikh Noorul Hassan has already filed a petition at the Supreme Court against the Act.
NPP Manipur unit would extend full support to Sheikh Noorul Hassan in fighting his case at the Supreme Court, Joykumar added.
