Senapati, October 10 2024: The tripartite talks between the Central Government (MHA), the State Government and representatives of the United Naga Council (UNC) on newly created districts will resume on Friday in New Delhi.

A 7-member team of the apex Naga body, UNC led by its president has landed in the capital, said sources.

Earlier, AK Mishra, Advisor (North East), MHA, Govt of India had addressed the president of the United Naga Council (UNC) to resume the talk on October 11 .

The Central team will be led by AK Mishra, Advisor (North East), MHA.

While there is no confirmation on who will represent the State Government, a Cabinet Minister or an MLA may lead the State team which will likely include Chief Secretary and DGP.

The United Naga Council team include its president Ng Lorho, general secretary Vareiyo Shatsang, UNC Working Committee convenor Samson Riamei and secretary AC Thotso, former president KS Paul Leo, Member of UNC Working Committee, Naga Women's Union president Priscilla Thiumai and All Naga Students Association, Manipur president Luikang Luckson.

The UNC has been demanding the Government to roll back the creation of the districts in 2016 .

It may be noted that at least 10 rounds of talks have been held at Senapati district headquarters over the issue in the past with the last round of talk held on March 9, 2019 .

The Nagas had for long been opposing granting district status to Kangpokpi, which was a part of Senapati district.

UNC had stuck to the ground that the land of the Nagas cannot be divided to give a district to the Kukis, who they dub are migrants who came to the State only at a much later stage.

The Sadar Hills Districthood Demand Committee had earlier imposed a marathonesque blockade on the National Highway demanding district status for Kangpokpi, which was then called Sadar Hills.
