Imphal, June 10 2025:
The two conglomerates of Kuki militant groups viz; KNO/KNA and UPF which are under Suspension of Operation (SoO) agreement with the Government of India and the Government of Manipur have been working to see their handpicked Kuki MLAs as Ministers as and when a popular Government is formed in the State.
Well placed sources informed that there is an internal conflict following the assertions of KNO/KNA and UPF that the MLAs recommended by them should be inducted as Ministers as and when a popular Government is formed in Manipur.
However, other Kuki militant groups which are not parties to the SoO agreement have warned that residences and bungalows of Kuki MLAs who are inducted as Ministers at the recommendation of SoO groups would be turned into ashes.
Even though there is a broad understanding among the Kukis on the formation of a popular Government, the sharp difference between SoO groups and non-SoO groups has created a bitter conflict, said the sources.
Nonetheless, SoO groups, Kuki CSOs, Kuki MLAs have been meeting and talking with each other regularly.
In case the Kuki MLAs join the formation of a popular Government, they may give priority to opening of highways and facilitating movement of communities in each other's areas, said the sources.
Leaders of KNO/KNA and UPF held a meeting with MHA officials led by interlocutor AK Mishra at Guwahati on Monday.
The militant leaders are staying at Guwahati till next Monday for another round of talks, said the sources.
In the meantime, KNO/KNA and UPF leaders would deliberate on the formation of a popular Government in Manipur.
The two sides have agreed to extend the term of SoO agreement and shift six designated camps located close to the valley districts, the sources added.
