6th Hangeul Day

The 6th Hangeul Day commenced today at the VC Court Hall of Manipur University (MU), Canchipur.
Organized with funding from the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in India, the event will continue until tomorrow.
Speaking at the function, Deputy Chief of Mission of the Korean Embassy, Sang Woo Lim highlighted that the Korean language programme which began as a one-year certificate course at MU, has now expanded to include PhD-level studies.
He also said that many Manipuris who completed Korean language courses have secured placements in Korean companies.
The Korean Embassy will extend all possible assistance to fulfil the goal of developed India and developed Manipur, Sang Woo said.
Stating that he arrived in Manipur yesterday and was captivated by the State's beauty, he added that Manipuri people share some similarities with Koreans in appearance.
He further said that Manipuris are very hospitable like Koreans.
Noting that he learned about the region's love for K-Pop and Korean dramas, Sang Woo said that the Korean Embassy will strive to organize Hangeul Day on a grander scale in future.
Head of the Foreign Language Department at Manipur University Dr Ahanthem Romita stated that Hangeul is the Korean script.
As part of the program, a seminar, quiz, and Korean speech competition were held.
Tomorrow, a Korean Food Festival, traditional Korean games, and other cultural activities will be held.
The programme was also attended by Vice Chancellor of Manipur University Prof N Lokendra.
KOSMA representative Tae Hwan Lim, First Embassy of Republic of Korea in India Minjeong Kim and Prof Yun Jeong Cho of Jung Ang University, Seoul, South Korea among others.
