AOI Imphal gets State's first BMT facility

Imphal, March 08 2025: American Oncology Institute (AOI), the leading and fastest growing multidisciplinary oncology network in South Asia, has inaugurated Manipur's first-ever Bone Marrow Trans- plant (BMT) unit in collabo-ration with Babina Specialty Hospital in Imphal.

The inaugural event was attended by Dr Chambo Gonmei, Director, State Directorate of Health Services; Dr N Hemantakumar, Director, Directorate of Family Welfare Services; and Dr Dhabali Thangjam, CMD, Babina Groups.

The BMT is a life-saving procedure for various life-threatening conditions, including leukemia, lymphoma, multiple myeloma, and aplastic anaemia.

Patients will now have access to world class treatment in Imphal, eliminating the need to travel to distant metropolitan cities for transplants, said AOI Imphal officials.

"The establishment of a Bone Marrow Transplant unit in Manipur is a trans-formative step for healthcare in the North East.

This will ensure timely and specialized treatment for patients battling blood cancers and other hematological conditions, reinforcing our commitment to making advan- ced medical care accessible within the State," said Dr Chambo Gonmei.

Dr N Hemantakumar said, "Access to quality cancer care has been a challen- ge for many in Manipur and neighbouring States.

This BMT unit at AOI Imphal will drastically reduce treatment burdens on families, providing them with cutting-edge medical expertise closer to home" .
