Imphal, March 07 2016: Locals mostly womenfolk and members of the JAC formed in connection with the death of the 45 year old woman at Samaram Panthak Loukol under Thoubal PS today attempted to storm the Chief Minister's bungalow twice demanding the arrest of the culprits behind the alleged murder.

The protesters were also trying to submit a reminder of the memorandum that the JAC had submitted to the State Govt a few days back.

Yumnam (N) Nongmaithem (O) Memicha of Naharup Pangong was found dead in a suspicious manner last week.

Angry locals from where the deceased woman hailed attempted to storm the CM's residence after a notification for the disposal of the dead body which is being kept at RIMS morgue was issued yesterday.

Members of JAC and locals of Naharup Pangong and surrounding villages gathered at Palace Gate at around 10.30 am today.

From there, they marched towards the Chief Minister's bungalow demanding the arrest of the culprits behind the suspicious murder of Memicha.

They also raised strong opposition to the move to dispose the body before the arrest of the culprits.

Imphal East district police personnel deployed in the area tried to stop the protesters at Sanjenthong area.

However, they proceeded towards the Chief Minister's bungalow.

The march was stopped with the arrival of additional police force led by Y Victoria, Additional SP, Prosecution in front of the Chief Minister's bungalow.

The protesters staged a demonstration there before they were pushed back till Sanjenthong.

Later, the protesters staged a protest in front of Veterinary office gate and appealed to the senior police officers of Imphal East district to arrange an appointment with the Chief Minister to submit the reminder.

The protesters were told that the CM was out to attend a function somewhere in Imphal West.

While the protesters were waiting for an appointment with the Chief Minister, mother of the deceased woman, all of a sudden, got up and started marching towards the CM bungalow once again.

Other protesters also followed her.

However, the protesters were stopped by IE district police including women personnel in the middle of Sanjenthong.

Soon after, a team of Imphal West district police including women police personnel joined the IE police to control the situation.

A large number of protesters blocked the road on both sides by sitting in the middle of Sanjenthong.

Due to the blocking of the road by the protesters, all vehicles coming towards Sanjenthong from both directions were diverted by the police.

However, no untoward incident occurred between the police and protesters.

The protesters shifted to the gate of Veterinary office after the police officers assured them that their reminder would be submitted to the CM when he returned.

Speaking to media persons, one of the womenfolk said that it is very unfortunate that despite the memorandum submitted by the JAC, the State Government remains silent regarding the suspicious death of Memicha till today.

She also said that the JAC had decided not to claim the body until the arrest of the culprits involved in the killing.

She also warned that they would intensify their agitation if the body is disposed as notified yesterday.

Memicha, it may be mentioned, was staying in her maternal home along with her husband and children.

She went to her husband's home on February 22 and failed to return home since then.

After five days, her lifeless body was found lying on a heap of straw by some workers who happened to pass the paddy field of Samaram Panthak Loukol which is located some distance away from her husband's residence in a suspicious manner.

The JAC members alleged that the culprits placed some insecticide near the body of Memicha to make it look like a suicide.

N Shyam, husband of Memicha who is staying along with Memicha and their children at his wife's biological parents home the handiworks of his own family members in the death of his wife.
