Atomic bombing of Hiroshima remembered

Imphal, August 06 2026: The Indo-Japan Friendship Association, Manipur observed the 81st Hiroshima Day at the Manipur Press Club, Imphal today.

The gathering observed a 2-minute silence in memory of the people killed in the atomic bombing on Hiroshima.

Centre for Japanese Language Studies Principal and India-Japan Friendship Association Manipur secretary Irungbam Mangal said the Hiroshima Day is observed to remember victims of the atomic bombing and call for an end to the use of such weapons of mass destruction.

Mangal spoke about the devastating impacts of the atomic bombs dropped on Japan, and further stated that during the 2nd World War, over 30,000 Japanese soldiers died in Manipur.

Stressing on the present India-Japan relations, Mangal said the Indo-Japan Friendship Association, Manipur has helped many youths from Manipur get education and jobs in Japan in various sectors including health, hospitality, and automobile industries.

Lamlai AC MLA Khongbantabam Ibomcha, who attended the observance, underscored the importance of people working together to curb violence and bring about normalcy and peace to Manipur.

Indo-japan Friendship Association Manipur vice president Ningthoujam Kumar Meitei, retired IPS officer Sarangthem Manaobi and Bharatiya Dalit Sahitya Akademi National secretary Dr Yumnam Mahendrakumar attended the observance.
