Imphal, July 04 2024:
BJP State unit has lambasted Dr Bimol Akoijam's criticism of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's statement on the Manipur situation as unbecoming of an MP/public leader.
Speaking to media persons at their Nityaipat Chuthek office today, BJP Manipur Pradesh general secretary K Saratkumar claimed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi gave a detailed statement on the Manipuri violence and the steps taken up by the Government to bring peace and normalcy in the State in the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday.
But Congress MP Dr Bimol Akoijam was saying that the Prime Minister's statement was insincere and deceitful.
This was too much.
It was unbecoming of an MP or a public leader, Saratkumar said.
The Prime Minister was not saying that the State's law and order has returned to normal.
Narendra Modi was saying that the law and order situation has been improving and now offices, schools and colleges have been opened.
The Prime Minister stated that the Union Home Minister and the Union Home Minister of State went to Manipur and stayed there for several days to monitor the situation, and the Central Government has been working to resolve the Manipur crisis, Saratkumar continued.
But the Congress MP was saying that the Prime Minister's statement was insincere and deceitful, he decried.
There was nothing constructive in Dr Bimol Akoijam's criticism of the Prime Minister's statement, Saratkumar said before adding that the Manipur crisis cannot be resolved without dialogue.
Shouting at the top of one's voice and dramatising the issue would not help in resolving the crisis, he said.
The Congress MP should have rather put forward constructive suggestions like implementation of NRC and expediting border fencing works, he added.
BJP Manipur Pradesh spokesman L Basanta too lashed out at Dr Bimol Akoijam for his assertion that abrogating the SoO agreement is up to the State Government.
SoO is a tripartite agreement involving the Government of India, Government of Manipur and several Kuki militant groups.
The Government of Manipur has already written to the Government of India to abrogate the SoO agreement.
Scrapping the agreement is up to the Central Government, L Basanta said.
