Imphal, September 02 2025:
Condemning the brutal murder of Nehkam Jomhao, Thadou Inpi Assam (TIA) has submitted a memorandum to Central and State authorities demanding termination of Soo agreements with Assam Kuki militant groups who are allegedly misusing peace talks to spread violence.
The charter of demands listed in TIA's memorandum also include i) NIA inquiry into the murder and militant involvement with alleged direct links to the ongoing Manipur violence for a larger gameplan by "antipeace Kuki supremacist elements", posing a grave National security threat, ii) a Government-facilitated Memorandum of Commu nity Understanding between Kuki and Thadou to safeguard Thadou identity, iii) ex-gratia compensation and compassionate appointment for the bereaved family and iv) establishment of a permanent memorial in Karbi Anglong to honour martyr Nehkam Jomhao.
Describing Jomhao as a lifelong advocate of Thadou identity and peace, TIA claimed that the deceased was deliberately targeted for his leadership and community-building efforts.
"His killing is part of a continuing pattern of systematic persecution of the Thadou people by Kuki militant groups", it asserted.
The apex body of the Thadou community in Assam has urged both the Central and Assam Government to act without delay to ensure justice, protect the Thadou people, and prevent further escalation of violence.
The memorandum was submitted to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Chief Minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma, District In-charge Cabinet Minister, Dr Ranoj Pegu, Chief Secretary, Assam, District Commissioners of Dima Hasao and Karbi Anglong and senior officials of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India.
It is worth noting that the body of Nehkam Jomhao remains untraced till date.
