Youth missing after falling into Senapati River, search & rescue on, SDRF called

Senapati, July 01 2024:
A 17 year old boy went missing after he slipped and fell into Senapati River on Monday evening amidst incessant monsoon rain coupled with rising river level and strong currents.
The missing youth has been identified as Hailungba Martin s/o Railung of Willong Khullen under Willong SubDivision and presently residing at District Council Colony, Senapati DHQ.
According to sources, the unfortunate incident occurred between 2:30 and 3 pm today near a canal located close to Old Monday Market Bailey Bridge connecting Maralong and Katomei.
The boy fell into the river and was carried away by the strong river current.
Immediately after the incident, a hectic search and rescue was carried out by Willong Circle villagers, locals, Senapati District Police, Red Cross Society Senapati and other well wishers.
However, till the filing of this report at 9 pm, the missing boy remained untraceable.
The District Administration Senapati has also sent a requisition letter to Director, Relief and Disaster Management for an SDRF team urgently to conduct a search and rescue mission for the missing youth.
With Orange warning weather predictions and continued downpour, the Senapati River water level has been increasing since Monday morning raising public concerns.
Reports of mudslide and landslides have also been reported in different sections of NH-2 route between Maram and Senapati DHQ.
Mudslide at the police check post between Khongnem and Karong also disrupted traffic movement before it was cleared.
