1.88 lakh folks affected : Newmai

Imphal, May 31 2024:
A total of 1,88,143 people have been affected by widespread flooding in the State owing to incessant downpour caused by Cyclone Remal, Minister of Water Resources, Relief & Disaster Management Awangbow Newmai has informed.
Taking to Facebook yesterday, the Water Resources Minister posted that the flood has damaged 24,265 houses while 18,103 people have been evacuated from their homes.
So far, nine people have sustained injuries in flood related incidents.
Fifty-six relief camps have been set up across the State to provide shelter to the affected families.
Addressing the large-scale impact on agriculture, Awangbow Newmai informed that a total of 401 hectares of crops have been affected.
Relief materials have been distributed to people in Imphal East, Imphal West, Bishnupur, Noney, Churachandpur, Senapati and Kakching districts, said the Minister.
The Water Resources Minister further informed that a brief meeting was convened with Additional Chief Secretary, Deputy Commissioners of Imphal West and Imphal East and the Directorate of Relief and Disaster Management yesterday to review the flood situation and strategize on immediate actions to be taken to address relief, search and rescue operations.
