Imphal, December 21: Council of Higher Secondary Education Manipur secretary A Saratkumar has stated that the Governor-in-Council's decision to hold elections for panchayat, zilla parishad and Hill Autonomous District Councils from March 6 to March 20 will affect the schedules of the twelve standard examinations.

Speaking to The Sangai Express today, Saratkumar said that holding elections during the examination period will be a big distraction to the students and the class eleven and twelve examinations act as the launching pads of the students' careers.

He also said that the council had already requested the Chief Electoral Officer not to hold any type of election during March.

The secretary said that the examination schedules are likely to be announced after the Election Commission notifies the date of the elections to the State Assembly.

In any case the examination will commence from the first week of March and continue till April, he said adding that there is nothing wrong in holding the panchayat and ADC elections in February and May.

Parents of students also said that the local body polls will have a direct effect on the class ten examinations which will be held either in March or April.

Saratkumar said that the State has 54 council recognized Government colleges and higher secondary schools and 89 private colleges and higher secondary schools.

The council granted recognition to 23 private higher secondary schools during the current year out of which the two capital districts have got 17.One school is in Tamenglong district while the rest are in Bishnupur, Thoubal and Kakching, he said.

Stating that the step was necessitated due to the swelling number of students, he said that the problems faced by students in getting admission to eleven class has eased.

He however said that the recognition process will be stopped for the next two years.

The council secretary said that altogether 25,446 and 28,000 admission forms were issued for class eleven and twelve respectively for the current session.

However, the numbers will see a decrease at the time of examinations as student got admitted to more than one institute.

To a query, he said that the council has taken up stringent steps to book those students who are preparing to sit examination in more than one centre.

As preventive measures, major subjects of the council's examination will be scheduled on the date on which major subjects of the CBSE examination fall.
