Imphal, September 29 2026: After an attack on an Assam Rifles patrol team in Arunachal Pradesh killed one jawan, the NSCN-YA (Yung Aung) and Revolutionary Peoples' Front (RPF) have claimed that they carried out the assault.

A statement, released by the NSCN-YA, said that the "joint military action" against the 21 Assam Rifles stationed near Nampong in Changlang district of Arunachal Pradesh was carried out at 6.30 am on September 29 .

It claimed the attack killed an AR soldier and critically injured several others, and the joint team recovered one AK assault rifle from the site.

Notably, reports said that an Assam Rifles patrol team was conducting a patrol where fencing work was underway along the India-Myanmar border when it came under attack.

The deceased jawan of the AR has been identified as Havildar Jankhokai Kuki (42) .

Following the attack, security forces launched operations in the area to track the insurgents and secure the border area.

Security has been beefed up in the area following the attack, said reports.
