Imphal, May 29 2026:
Khanuithot-Khon (Voice of the Naga Youth), Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) and Civil Society Organisations (CSOs), Kangleipak have raised concerns over the current security arrangements along National Highway 202, following the tragic killing of a non local truck driver in an ambush by Kuki groups today.
Take immediate actions: Naga youths
The Naga youth organisation, in a press release, stated that the continued failure to secure NH-202 has led to yet another tragic loss of innocent life in the TM Kasom area, which has witnessed repeated attacks and firing carried out by "Kuki terrorists" targeting civilians, transport vehicles and commuters.
It said the recurrence of such incidents reflects a disturbing pattern of insecurity along one of the most crucial lifelines connecting Ukhrul and Imphal.
The Organisation further stated that what makes the incident particularly alarming is that security forces were present in the vicinity, yet no effective action was taken to neutralise the threat or secure the area.
It added that the repeated occurrence of such attacks raises serious concerns over the effectiveness of the existing security arrangements and the operational response mechanism along NH-202.Stressing that NH-202 must not become a corridor of fear, insecurity, and bloodshed, the Naga group urged the Government to apprehend those responsible for today's attack as well as previous ambushes along the highway.
It further urged the Government to take immediate action to secure the highway, provide enhanced protection for commuters and transporters, and conduct a thorough review to determine why repeated attacks continue despite the deployment of security forces in the area.
No one is safe
Referring to the indiscriminate firing on a convoy of goods vehicles that killed one truck driver today, CSOs Kangleipak has accused the Government of remaining silent even as Kuki armed groups have targeted every Indian citizen.
The group said that travelling along the highways has remained perilous since the violent campaign by illegal immigrants began on May 3, 2023.The Government's inaction has made the highways unsafe, it said.
The CSOs noted that today, a truck from West Bengal was attacked, resulting in the death of the driver from West Bengal, while a Manipur police personnel sustained injuries in the ambush.
It urged the Government to apprehend the assailants.
CSOs Kangleipak also prayed for the departed soul to rest in peace and wished a speedy recovery for the injured police personnel.
COCOMI condemns
Condemning the ambush, COCOMI stated that the public has not seen any action taken by the Union or State Government against all acts of terrorism carried out by Kuki narco-terrorists since May 3, 2023 .
The Committee stated that Kuki narco-terrorists have been emboldened to carry out attacks as the Government continues to make inconsistent statements instead of effectively using its machinery to protect the lives and property of the people.
Saying that the killing of a truck driver escorted by security personnel and the injury of a police officer in yet another attack by Kuki narco-terrorists today show that no one is safe along the highway, COCOMI asked what action the Government would take against the security personnel on duty in the area.
It further questioned whether the Government would dismiss the incident as merely a security lapse or intelligence failure.
