Imphal, October 28 2024: Special Judge POCSO Imphal West has sent a 20-year-old private school teacher to judicial custody till November 11 for sexually assaulting a minor student several times.

The accused is identified as Lamthaka Moringchan Maring (20) of Tengnoupal district.

Lamthaka Moringchan Maring was produced before the POCSO Court today by a team of Machi police after the completion of the police custody period along with a prayer for remanding him to judicial custody.

During the hearing, the Special Public Prosecutor submitted to the Court that on October 21, the mother of the minor victim lodged a complaint with the Machi police alleging her daughter had been sexually assaulted by the teacher.

The minor was sexually assaulted by the teacher on October 15 and October 16 at the residence of a relative when all the family members were visiting another village for a religious programme, according to the complaint filed with the police.

Based on the complaint, the accused was arrested on the same night (October 21) and during interrogation, Lamthaka Moringchan Maring has admitted to "raping" the minor girl several times, said the Prosecutor, requesting the Court to remand accused to judicial custody for smooth investigation.

The Court, after hearing the submissions of Special PP and on perusal of the materials on record, remanded Lamthaka Moringchan Maring to judicial custody till November 11 .
