Imphal, August 28 2025:
Shiv Sena Manipur Pradesh president, M Tombi has criticized the People's Union of Civil Liberties (PUCL) report on the Manipur crisis, calling it one-sided, baseless, and biased towards one community by unfairly blaming the Meetei community.
Speaking to media persons at the party office at Babupara today, Tombi said that it was absurd for PUCL to release a biased report when even the Supreme Court had already formed a subcommittee to address the crisis, without considering the sensitivity of the Manipur issue.
PUCL must issue a clarification for its biased report on a public platform, he asserted.
Stating that inflation in Manipur is at its peak due to illegal taxes collected on National Highways, he questioned why the Central Government and the Governor's administration ignore the extortion occurring on the highways.
The Government could easily prevent the collection of illegal taxes on highways if it shows commitment, he said.
Tombi also said that the skyrocketing prices of goods amid the crisis in Manipur have taken a heavy toll on the already suffering people.
Meanwhile, he appealed to the Governor to convene an all-party meeting as soon as possible if the speculation about Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Manipur in September is true to work out a roadmap to resolve the crisis in Manipur.
Holding separate meetings with different groups won't resolve the crisis, he said and added that a longterm policy and collective effort are needed to heal Manipur.
Stating that the Meetei people are unable to use highways and only rely on flights to travel outside Manipur, he urged the Governor to take necessary action to reduce airfares for the Meetei community.
