Public dialogue calls for last rites of CCpur victims

The five-day public dialogue on the protection of indigenous people of Manipur, jointly organised by National Research Centre (NRC) and Manipur University's Dean of Students of Welfare, has come to an end with four resolutions at MU centenary hall today.
After taking into consideration the views, opinions and remarks given during the public dialogue, it was resolved that the integrity of Manipur evolved with civilizational values, principles of constitutionalism, rule of law and justice bestowed by brethren communities with shared responsibilities during its millennia of historical experience, and the continuity of the pluralistic co-existence of indigenous people irrespective of population size be reaffirmed with oneness of thoughts and activities ensuring safeguard of commonalities and overcoming of differences, and promoting mutual growth and development of all indigenous communities of the State.
It was further resolved that the prolonged demand of enforcing an Act to safeguard the State's indigenous people from any kind of threats and the grave impact of the unchecked and unlawful influx of foreign Nationals and other migrants in the State be strictly adhered to till its realization for which the Govt of Manipur be strongly urged to unfailingly enact and implement appropriate laws in the forthcoming Assembly session without leaving behind any procedural lapses and by incorporating the interests of all the communities of Manipur endorsing and promoting the centuries old unity and integrity of Manipur people.
The Govt of India be strongly urged to do the needful to give cognizance to the people of Manipur as indigenous people and the unrest in the State arising out of influx of migrants be given priority as a National agenda.
It was also decided that the last rites of the nine persons who died in unfortunate incidents in Churachandpur after the three Bills were passed by Manipur State Assembly be conducted with full honour and dignity at the earliest for which the Govt of Manipur be appealed to take up all the necessary arrangements in consultation with JACAATB.
Advocate Angomcha Araba, Centre for Myanmar Studies Director Prof W Nabakumar, Dr Thathang Vaiphei, H Nabashyam, Arambam Lokendro, Editor's Guild president A Mobi, MUTSU former president Bosco Jaiche, Hamudur Rehman of MU's Biotechnology Department and Chiru Union senior executive member Simon Chiru expressed their views on the concluding day of the public discussion moderated by former Chief Minister Radhabinod Koijam.
