Ranjit talks tough at inaugural function

Imphal, January 28 2009: Works Minister K Ranjit has assured that contractors engaged in the repairing work of Indo-Burma-Sugnu Road will be blacklisted and befitting actions initiated against them for any incompleted work.

The Works Minister was speaking at the inaugural function of a bailey bridge built over Manipur river at Wangoo Chuthek Leikai under Sugnu AC.

Though repairing work of the Indo-Burma-Sugnu was taken up in 2007 after the Works Department sanctioned several crores for the same work, some portions of the road stretch remain incomplete even today.

Ranjit said that Department officials have been instructed to blacklist and take up befitting actions against those contractors responsible for the incomplete portions.

Announcing that the road connecting Moirang Lamkhai to Indo-Burma-Sugnu Road through Kumbi, Sagang and Wangoo has been upgraded to the status of a State Highway, the Works Minister said that expansion and development work of the road will be taken up shortly.

He disclosed that contractors are reluctant to continue development work of the Nungoo-Chairel road and the road from Tangjeng Khunou to Tangjeng Khunjao following incidents of abductions of labourers by unidentified miscreants for ransom.

The Minister also appealed to the people to round up such anti-social elements if people happen to come across them or inform police.

For expansion of the road stretch from Wangoo Lamkhai to Tampha Lairembi, a sum of Rs one crore has been set aside, he said.

The inaugural function of the bailey bridge constructed by PWD at the cost of Rs 1.8 crore was also attended by Education Minister L Jayantakumar as chief guest and Kumbi A/C MLA and MANIDCO Chairman N Mangi as guest of honour.

Former Minister N Bira also attended the function.

Earlier before the inaugural function, the Ministerial team was accorded a warm reception by the local people including school students at the compound of Wangoo Tampha Lairembi.

The ministerial team led by the Works Minister also inspected the bridges being constructed at Wangoo Nongyaikhong and two places along Khuga river, Kumbi Bazar and also the bridge being built between Saiton and Nganukon.

The team also inspected the road from Moirang to Sendra Tourist Home as an advance survey for upgradation of the road to a four lane road.
