Imphal, June 27 2025:
Peh Aze Tang Primary School located in a remote comer of Peh village in Ukhrul district, is teetering on the edge of collapse - both figuratively and literally - due to decades of neglect, a crumbling infrastructure, and lack of adequate funding.
Due to lack of resources and facilities, the quality of education and the well-being of its students are at risk.
The school is burdened with deteriorating classrooms, a critical shortage of teachers, and a complete lack of basic learning resources.
Broken windows, leaking roofs, and collapsing walls pose daily risks to children who are merely trying to access their right to education.
"The school building is so unsafe that during the rainy season, parents urge their children to stay at home rather than school," said one teacher.
Parents and community members have voiced growing frustration over the years, appealing multiple times to local authorities for intervention about the school's condition and its impact on the children's education.
Parents and guardians are worried that their children are not receiving the quality of education they deserve.
Local authorities have been urged to address the issues and provide the necessary support to improve the school's infrastructure and resources.
Many families are now forced to consider pulling their children out of school due to the unsafe environment and poor learning outcomes.
Education advocates say the crisis at Peh Aze Tang Primary is a glaring example of a systemic neglect that affects many rural schools across the region.
As the 2025-2026 academic year begins, the call for action has never been more urgent.
Civil society groups are urging the Education Department and relevant local authorities to act immediately - by allocating emergency funds to renovate the school, deploying trained teachers, and restoring the promise of education to a generation of children currently being left behind.
Until then, Peh Aze Tang Primary stands not as a place of learning, but as a symbol of Govt lethargy and a silent crisis that can no longer be ignored.
