Imphal, October 26:
Various intense form of agitations have been lined up against the Government in case it fails to take up necessary steps to secure the safe release of the three abducted Engineers of the PHE Department within October 28.While announcing formation of a JAC against the abduction of the three Engineers during a press conference at Manipur Press Club here today, JAC convenor Hawaibam Debendra decried the alleged indifferent attitude of the Government towards the plight of the abducted officials as well as of their family members.
Debendra asserted that the three officials were abducted on October 12 while going on a departmental duty and not for any private purposes, so it is expected of the Government to take up necessary measures to ensure their safe release.
However, even after 15 days of the abduction, the Government has not said even a single consoling word to the worried family members of the abducted officials nor given an chance to the JAC functionaries to meet the Chief Minister and the PHE Minister in this regard, Debendra said, adding that such attitude of the Government is condemnable.
Ningombam Shantakumar, another functionary of the JAC said the Government is expected to take up at least some steps by now when the women and children who have been separated from their husbands and fathers have been hospitalised as they could not eat or sleep properly.
Saying that the JAC has taken serious note of the refusal of the PHE Minister to meet its functionaries yesterday, Shantakumar added that because of such indifferent attitude of the Government, people have stated suspecting whether the Government is behind the abduction of the three PHE officials.
In case the Government fails to take up necessary measures to secure the safe release of the abducted officials by October 28, the JAC would be compelled to seek the support of the people and launch a series of intense agitations against the Government, Shantakumar warned.
It is said the JAC yesterday submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh and PHE Minister TN Haokip through their respective PROs.
