Imphal, March 26 2026:
A combined team of Nambol Police Station and Quick Action Team of CRPF arrested two persons along with 150 soap cases containing 1673 grams of heroin number 4 powder from Meitram at 1.25 pm today.
The arrested persons have been identified as Kasimthai Rongmei (32), s/o Jianlungpou of Luang-chung Part I (driver) and Gaikhuluanlung Ruangmei (46) son of Majalan Ruangmei, Noney district.
According to reliable information, a joint operational team of Nambol PS and the Manipur Nagaland Sector Quick Action Team and Range Sector Quick Action Team of CRPF set up a random mobile vehicle check post along the stretch of Tiddim Road between Malom and Nambol Bazar this afternoon.
While checking vehicles in the Meitram area around 1.25 pm, the joint team observed a white Bolero Pick Up with Assam registration number plate driving in a suspicious manner toward the check post.
The vehicle was coming from Churachandpur and headed towards Imphal.
After signalling the vehicle to halt, the identities of the two occupants were determined.
During checking, 150 soap cases containing the contraband item were found concealed beneath the modified rear compartment of the vehicle.
Upon weighing and spot sample test, the contraband item was determined to be 1673 grams of heroin powder, excluding the weight of the cases.
Accordingly, the duo were arrested after observing due formalities and handed over to Nambol Police Station along with the seized drugs for necessary proceedings under the ND&PS Act, said sources.
