House to hold session from Sep 2 to 7

Imphal, August 01 2026: The eighth session of the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly will be held from September 2 to 7, 2026 .

The Business Advisory Committee of the Manipur Legislative Assembly held a meeting today with Speaker Th Satyabrata in the chair.

Notwithstanding strong protest from the Opposition Congress party, the meeting decided to restrict the session to three days of sitting from September 2 to 7 .

Following the BAC's decision, the Assembly Secretariat has published a bulletin regarding the eighth session of the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly.

According to the bulletin, businesses listed for the first sitting include obituary reference, presentation of BAC report, presentation of the first batch of the Demands for Supplementary Grants 2026-27, introduction of Government Bills.

The second sitting (September 3) will feature questions, general discussion on the first batch of the Demands for Supplementary Grants 2026-27 and other business.

The last day of the session will be held on September 7 and the agenda listed for the day include questions, discussion and voting on the first batch of the demands for Supplementary Grants 2026-27, introduction of Appropriation Bill, consideration and passing of Government Bills and other businesses.

Expressing strong disapproval of the decision taken by the BAC today, Opposition leader K Meghachandra asked officials concerned to insert a dissent note in the meeting proceedings.

Speaking to media persons after the meeting at the gate of Manipur Legislative Assembly, Meghachandra remarked that it looks like the Government is holding the Assembly session out of compulsion.

He said that the three-day sitting is too short considering the myriad issues plaguing Manipur at present.

There will not be enough time to discuss the pressing issues of prolonged violence and unrest in the State, the grievances and pleas of IDPs, the growing voice for updating the NRC before commencing census operations and the proposed deal to swap border areas of Manipur with Myanmar, Meghachandra said.

"We proposed more sittings at the BAC meeting but the ruling parties dismissed the proposal.

As such, we asked the officials concerned to insert a dissent note in the proceedings of today's meeting", he said.
