Security on NH-37 to be strengthened

In the wake of the gun attack by suspected NSCN (IM) cadres on a loaded trucks at Awangkhul along Imphal-Jiribam road yesterday, a meeting of Combined Headquarters was convened this evening at the Chief Minister's Secretariat with CM O Ibobi presiding.
Sources said Deputy CM Gaikhangam, Chief Secretary O Nabakishore, Additional Chief Secretary Dr Suresh Babu, DGP LM Khaute and officials of Army, Assam Rifles, CRPF and BSF also attended the meeting.
The meeting resolved to further strengthen security escort for safe passage of loaded trucks along Imphal-Jiribam road.
Along with deciding to increase security checking and works of area domination along the road, the meeting agreed to entrust security forces to bring back those stranded vehicles at Jiribam at once.
It may be mentioned that one tanker driver was injured in the gun attack that also left the oil tanker partly damaged.
On the other hand, the Central Government had arranged a tripartite talk to put an end to the ongoing economic blockade.
Chief Secretary O Nabakishore had a talk with Joint Secretary (North East In-Charge), Ministry of Home Affairs yesterday to finalize the date for holding the tripartite talk with the UNC which is enforcing the blockade.
