Senapati, November 24 2016: Enraged customers of SBI Leimakhong branch today gheraoed the branch officials and staff due to inadequate cash at the branch for distribution.

Hundreds of enraged customers of SBI Leimakhong branch gathered in front of the branch office from 10 am and confined the bank officials and staff when they arrived for their duty which compelled the bank to remain closed till 2 pm today, our correspondent reports.

One customer said due to non-availability of cash in the branch, withdrawal or exchange of money could not be done at the branch since the demonetization of Rs 500 and Rs 2000 notes were announced on November 8 .

Another customer said, "We stand in queue from 3 am in the morning braving the winter chill but, we return back without any money as there is no cash at the branch.

The bank officials and staff arrived at around 11 am" .

Speaking to media person, Leimakhong Area Women Welfare Organization president Mawinu said the grievances and hardships faced by the people are beyond expression.

While condemning the poor implementation of the demonetization move by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the women leader said difficulties mounts upon the people as banks in the area have no cash.

When women representatives met the branch manager today, he said no sufficient amount of cash has been delivered to the branch till today due to which the customers as well as bank employees face tremendous hardships.

The women body has urged the authority concerned to provide adequate cash to the branch in order to avoid uncalled for scenario in the larger interest of the people.
