Imphal, January 24 2013: The 6th death anniversary observance of Meetei Mayek campaigner Chingsubam Akaba was held at Wakha Leima Ching today under the joint aegis of Luchingpurel Chingsubam Akaba Ningshing Lup and Meetei Erol Eyek Loinasillon Apunba Lup (Meelal) .

Leading the gathering in paying obeisance at the Wakha Leima Ching memorial site of Akaba as the chief guest, Agriculture Minister Md Abdul Nasir also inaugurated a rest house built in memory of the indigenous script advocate, whose mortal remains had been laid to rest at Wakha Leima Ching.

The rest house is said to have been constructed with financial assistance from Lucanil trustee member Ph Rajendra.

As a part of the commemoration function, Minister Nasir also presented Meeyamgee Luchingpurel Chingsubam Akaba Ningsing Mana (award) to teachers Irom Nilakomol of Kamong and HB Thumthung of Riverlane in Chandel district.

The award carry citation, certificate and Rs 10,000 each.

Speaking at the occasion, Abdul Nasir conveyed that all possible measures would be initiated to develop water storage facilities at the Nongmaiching (Baruni) foothills as a part of the irrigation infrastructure development project.

Noting Chingsubam Akaba's endeavour to promote cordial relationships between different communities, he opined that development of a model village at the gentler slopes of the hill range would be a fitting tribute to the script campaigner's other goal for a green revolution and food sufficiency in the State.

Parliamentary Secretary Md Amin Shah, who was also present at the commemoration event highlighted Oja Akaba's tireless effort to promote unity in the multi-ethnic Manipuri society by propagating development of the indigenous Manipuri script.

In his address former Minister RV Minthing called upon every section of the society to contribute their mite in strengthening Manipur's emotional unity and fraternal bond.

He observed that composition of the Manipuri society by the Meitei, Meitei-Pangal, Naga and Kuki communities is a unique opportunity to lay a strong foundation and cement age-old ties for a progressive Manipur.

Remembering Akaba as an individual with wide knowledge on the sentiment and aspirations of the hill people, RV Minthing expressed that all out effort should be made by all concerned to maintain peace and brotherhood in the State.

Among others, Council of Higher Secondary Education Manipur's Secretary Prof H Naba, Director (DIPR) Wangkheimayum Rajen, Tangkhul Wungnao Long vice president Akui Zimik and All Manipur Recognised Private School Welfare Association advisor N Tomba were also present at the observance.

Delivering the key-note address lup convenor Moirangthem Naokhomba asserted that the commemoration function is not a mere formality but an event to renew pledge for sustaining the script campaigner's aspiration and goal for further development of the script through inclusive participation of all the communities.

Highlighting that foundation stone for development of the memorial complex was laid by titular king Leisemba Sanajaoba on January 20, 2008 followed by its formal unveiling on 18 January 2011, naokhomba said that along with inauguration of the rest house today preparations are underway to publish a book on Akaba's effort and contribution towards development of the indigenous script.
