Imphal, June 23 2024:
A large number of loaded trucks, oil tankers and LPG bullets which were stranded at Jiribam because of large scale violence there have reached Imphal today.
The convoy of trucks, oil tankers and LPG bullets was escorted by security personnel and some representatives of Rongmei civil society organisations.
The truckers and the Rongmei CSO leaders were accorded a warm reception at Khumbong by the Coordinating Committee Petro- leum and Bulk LPG Drivers, and local clubs and Meira Paibi groups of Khumbong.
Speaking at the reception function, Th Chandrakumar of the Coordinating Committee Petroleum and Bulk LPG Drivers said that the loaded vehicles were unable to move even with security escorts because of the violence at Jiribam and threats at certain sections of Imphal-Jiribam highway.
The stranded vehicles were able to depart for Imphal with the active intervention of some Rongmei CSOs and it deserves widespread appreciation, he said.
At the same time, the Government too should ensure that vehicles can ply freely without any disturbance on NH 37, he added.
Rongmei Naga Students' Union Manipur president Daichui pointed that goods and commodities transported on National Highways are not meant for a single community.
He then appealed to all concerned to refrain from blocking Imphal-Jiribam highway for whatever reasons.
