Govt has failed to ensure security : ANSAM

Senapati, September 22 2026: While accusing the Centre and the State Government of failing to ensure the safety of people living in vulnerable locations, the All Naga Students Association, Manipur (ANSAM) has urged both Governments to move beyond condemnation and demonstrate their commitment to the rule of law through concrete action.

ANSAM, in a press note, questioned the "apparent inability" of the competent authorities and law enforcement agencies to act decisively and take appropriate legal action against those responsible for criminal activities, in accordance with the rule of law.

It stated that the Centre and the State Government have witnessed escalating atrocities allegedly committed against innocent Naga people and other indigenous civilians by Kuki armed militants operating under the Suspension of Operations (SoO) pact.

While people expect the Government and its law-enforcement agencies to protect civilians and their properties, ANSAM stated that merely issuing condemnations without visible action is highly questionable and unbecoming of the Government administration and its law-enforcement machinery.

At this critical juncture, when civilians are being targeted day after day, the apparent inability of the Government to take effective action against KNF(P) leaders and provide adequate security to vulnerable civilians is deeply unfortunate and unbecoming of a democratic Government where the rule of law is expected to prevail, the release stated.

It added that condemnations by the Government and all parties concerned must be followed by concrete action and accountability.

Condemning all atrocities and crimes committed against innocent civilians by KNF (P) and other Kuki armed militants operating under the SoO pact, including attacks targeting civilians, teachers, women, students and even children, ANSAM questioned the inability of the competent authorities and law-enforcement agencies to take appropriate legal action against those responsible in accordance with the rule of law.

ANSAM also condemned the "cold-blooded murder" of a 17-year-old student identified as NK Wiphenbou of upper Takou Village between Takou and Tama (Malek) villages under Tamei Sub-division, Tamenglong allegedly by KNF (P) and other Kuki armed militants yesterday.

ANSAM urged the Government of Manipur and the Government of India to act sincerely and take appropriate action against the perpetrators and provide immediate and effective security to civilians living in vulnerable locations.

The Government must move beyond condemnation and dialogue and demonstrate its commitment to the rule of law through concrete action, accountability and effective protection of civilian lives and properties, it added.
