Imphal, January 22 2025: All Manipur United Clubs' Organisation (AMUCO) president Ph Nando Luwang has accused the Government of India (GoI) of legitimising violence by holding rounds of dialogue with Kuki-Zo leaders 'who are responsible for the mayhem in Manipur' .

Speaking at the 19th foundation day of Imphal East District United Clubs Organisation (IEDUCO) at Kongba Kshetri Leikai as chief guest today, Nando continued that the GoI has been scheming to disintegrate Manipur by holding talks with ethnic based armed groups.

Instead of resolving the conflict, the GoI has been inviting Kuki Zo leaders who instigate the series of violence against the indigenous Meeteis for talks, he charged.

Nando went on to claim that Kuki Zo leaders are responsible for the killing of several Meeteis and attacks on innocent civilians since May 3, 2023 and as such they should be sent to jail and not invited for talks at the Ministry level.

Does democracy in India mean legitimising violence, he asked.

Ethnic violence happens elsewhere too but the situation settles down with the passage of time unlike the crisis in Manipur which is about to complete two years, Nando added.

Claiming that the GoI has been tormenting the people of Manipur by letting the violence persist, he said that there is nothing normal about the situation in Manipur.

Anything can happen in Manipur the next moment, he said.

It is okay for a group of people to raise their aspirations to the Government but using violence like what the Kuki Zo people have been doing as a means is not justifiable, he said.

The Kuki Zo people raise their demand by killing Meeteis, burning houses and attacking civilians and there is nothing justifiable about it, Nando said.

He, meanwhile, appealed to the people to refrain from forming clubs and organisations randomly as it will erode people's faith in them.

Nando also said that the emergence of numerous clubs and organisations and them taking resolutions on a piece of a letter head is irritating.

Poirei Leimarol Meira Paibi Apunba Manipur president Soraisam Memcha, AMUCO advisor Ningthoujam Shyamsunder Meetei, AMAWOVA president Yumkhaibam Kunjarani, Uchekon Nongpok GP Pradhan N Jadumani and SEUCO president Seram Surjit Meetei also attended the programme.

The gathering observed silence for two minutes in honour of all people who died fighting to protect the unity and integrity of Manipur.
