Mid-term poll unlikely : Thangso

Imphal, September 21 2012: There is no likelihood of any mid-term poll even though Trinamool Congress has withdrawn their support to the UPA Government, stated MP Thangso Baite while terming the demand for Prime Minister Dr Manmohan's resignation as unreasonable.

In an exclusive talk with The Sangai Express, Thangso Baite stated that it was the Opposition parties which refused to discuss on the floor of the Parliament the issues of diesel price, LPG cap and FDI in retail sector.

Opposition parties, by denying any opportunity to discuss the charges they hurled against the UPA Government on proper platforms, have been trying to project the Government as guilty.

Nevertheless, the Prime Minister has written to the Opposition leaders and explained/clarified about all the charges made by them against the Government.

Accusing Trinamool Congress leader Mamata Banerjee of not abiding by the collective decision of UPA, Thangso Baite noted that Trinamool Congress and their leader Mamata Banerjee have been arguing every issue since it became a partner of the UPA.

Even as Trinamool Congress has left UPA on the issues of diesel price hike, LPG cap and FDI in retail sector, there is no likelihood of any mid-term poll.

Congress would certainly win support from either Samajwadi party or BSP, the MP asserted.

Clarifying on the purported reports of immigration from Myanmar into Churachandpur district, Thangso said that there was every possibility people living in remote areas of Churachandpur district went to Myanmar in search of livelihood at some point of time in the past but they were driven back by Myanmarese authority since 1968 for not possessing identity cards.

Myanmarese nationals would not like to immigrate and settle in any remote area of Churachandpur district for the living conditions are not favourable there and there is little means of decent livelihood.

In the meantime, people of these remote villages, compelled by insurgency problems, lack of transport infrastructure and basic requirements have been migrating to Churachandpur town.

They appeared to be Myanmarese nationals because they cannot speak Manipuri properly.

The MP further advised all not to stir any propaganda about influx from the neighbouring country into the district as it has all the potential to create misunderstanding among different communities living together in the district.
