Bandh ends peacefully

The Communist Party of India (CPI) Manipur State Council sponsored 12 hours State wide general strike has ended peacefully.
The Manipur State Council CPI called the general strike to protest police high handedness against CPI workers who attempted to storm the ongoing Assembly session yesterday on various demands.
Regular power supply and potable water, setting up fast track courts to deal with the growing number of crime against women, Implementation of Inner Line Permit System (ILPS) in Manipur, putting an end to the drug menace, setting up a National Highway protection force and regular distribution of PDS items at subsidised rates are some of the demands raised by the party.
The strike had little impact in major market places in Imphal City area including Khwairamband Keithel.
Inter-district passenger vehicles and Inter-State buses took the road as usual.
Educational institutions remained unaffected as normal classes went on during the strike period.
Attendance at Govt office was normal.
No untoward incidents were reported during the 12 hours strike.
Heavy security was deployed in sensitive areas under the instruction of the State Home department.
