Kuki militants launch fresh attack

Imphal, May 21 2026: After a gap of around 20 days, Kuki militants have resumed their campaign of armed aggression, targeting Sharkapung village this time.

Sources said that Kuki militants, armed with sophisticated weapons, attacked the Naga village, in Ukhrul district under Litan police station this afternoon.

Kuki militants opened fire towards Sharkapung village from Mongkot Chephu Kuki village at around 2.30 pm .

Naga village guards retaliated and fired toward the Kuki militants who were trying to advance towards their village, further said sources.

The exchange of fire lasted for around 20 minutes but there was no report of any injuries or casualties on either side.

Both State and Central forces have rushed to the area to bring the situation under control, said the sources.

The situation is reportedly tense in the area and the security personnel are maintaining strict vigil to prevent any further unwanted incidents, said the sources.
